Slumdog Millionaire
Did you enjoy the Oscar-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’? It was filmed in the same slum community (Dharavi) where Pratham had its origins. Although the movie is a wonderful portrayal of the tenacity and spirit of the youngsters and the triumph of hope over adversity, it is a sobering window on the hardships faced by slum children and their families everywhere. The reality in the slums is sometimes harsher than portrayed in the movie, but with a determined effort by NGOs such as Pratham and the support of people like you, there is a light at the end of the sewerpipe for these kids.

Canadian High School Grads raise money for Pratham

Talk about public-spirited young people! A group of high school students in Fredericton NB decided to forego cherished Prom traditions - instead of spending hundreds of dollars on Prom dresses and accessories, they channelled the money into a large donation to Pratham. Their group -Graduates Without Borders/Finissants sans Fronitieres -supports worthwhile causes by raising awareness and funds through various initiatives.
Pratham Canada is very grateful and proud to be associated with such a fine group of young people and we wish them the very best in their future endeavours. Bravo!
